I love Art!!
Shelley Lapham (aka: Miss Shelley) is a professional Artist
and Children’s Instructor who has taught a wide variety of Art mediums including
Painting on Canvas, Drawing, Sculpting, Clay, Mosaics, Mixed Media, and 3D Art
for over 10 years. She is well known in the Charlotte, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and
Lake Wylie area for her work with Preschool, Home School, & Elementary Art
classes and summer camps. Miss Shelley has taught hundreds of Creative Art
classes over the years at the Charlotte Art League, YMCA of Greater Charlotte,
York Preparatory Academy, Gymboree Play & Music, Home School groups,
boy/girl scout troops, birthday parties, summer camp programs, Mom’s clubs, and
in her home studio Creative Minds where she specialized for over 8 years in
preschool and elementary Music & Art classes.
Miss Shelley has been involved with the Arts since she was a young girl. She
would spend hours on her sun patio creating and painting and she was very
involved in Music, Theatre, and Art programs while growing up. She earned a
music scholarship to Liberty University in Virginia where she studied Elementary
Education, Art, Music, & Dance and over the years she has taken numerous Art
classes and workshops by other professional Artists. In 1999, she traveled to a
small island off the coast of Belize to share her love of music and art with
children who had never even seen a crayon before. After the birth of her son in
2002, she became a Nanny for Michelle Rogers, the Owner of Miller Street Dance
Academy, and Shelley went back to school at night and on the weekends to earn
her NC Early Childhood Teaching Credentials. Shortly after, she began teaching
Music and Art classes for preschool and elementary age children. In 2011,
Shelley spent several months in the western North Carolina mountains studying
clay, drawing, and glass fusing and taught classes for all ages at a local
studio near Cherokee, NC.
In addition to her children’s classes, Shelley also teaches Adult Classes in
Painting, Mixed Media, Clay, Decoupage, and Glass Fusing as a fun and creative
way for Women to bring out their creative side and release the inner artist that
is so often hidden and waiting to be revealed. Miss Shelley’s Creative Minds Art
classes have been featured in Little One’s Magazine and other local magazines
and online articles. Her students keep coming back year after year to further
their knowledge and love of the Arts in her fun, hands on, Creative Art
classes!
In her free time, Shelley enjoys hiking in the mountains, traveling to the
beach and Florida, cooking, reading, spending time with her family, and of
course creating Art in her home studio! Her favorite mediums are Glass Mosaics
and Mixed Media as well as Painting on Canvas. She loves attending weekend Art
workshops and creating fun works of Mixed Media Mosaics using various forms,
shapes, textures, and lots of bright colored tesserae. She hopes to see you or
your child in a Creative Minds class soon!
